If I buy DOWNLOADED expansion packs for the Sims 3 instead of disks, will that affect my gameplay?

You don't need to download the EP's in any specific order for them to be included in your game. You can get as many EP's as you want, just when you start up Sims make sure to click on the icon of the EP you most recently installed.
