Please tell me the name of the book and author?

I read the story in a reader's digest condensed book some years ago. It was about a woman, probably in her mid to late twenties who returned home to her wealthy in-laws in the South after her marriage failed. I think that the husband died. She retruned home with her young daughter so broke that they had to walk to the house from the bus station. Upon returning, the family is distant and the woman starts falling in love with the oldest brother, but he is engaged. The brother in law also has a small daughter who cuts up the dress that the fiance bought for her to wear to the wedding. The family makes custom ordered boats for a living and the woman starts working for them at the office. She begins an affair with the older brother and he later breaks off his engagement. The woman also discovers that one of the family members is some kind of ual predator.
